New federal guidelines now ask healthcare professionals to treat all women of childbearing age as "pre-pregnant". The recommendations themselves are nothing new- get enough folic acid, don't smoke, maintain a healthy weight, etc, etc. They've been saying that forever.

Ordering American women and their doctors to regard every uterus as "pre-pregnant" at all times because a woman may do harm to a fetus she doesn't know she's carrying opens the door to one day prosecuting women for failing to regard themselves as "pre-pregnant." Sound far-fetched? Well, so did a war on contraception a few years ago...There is a bright side in the CDC's announcement: If we're going to regard all females as pre-pregnant, then we can, as my friend Gomez points out, regard all virgins as merely pre-fucked."
