Kalt Tante

I just realized I live at the end of I-95. I suppose I can think of it as the beginning, but no, nothing should begin here. This is, after all, where the dead go to die. Were there too many commas in that last sentence?

Last week was cold down here at the end of I-95. Seriously. We turned the heat on. The HEAT! It got down to the high 30's at night. The weather person used the phrase "wind chill". WTF? But now it's back up to the 70s and it's lovely.

I'm going to be an aunt soon. Yay! Hopefully I will be a cool aunt. Hopefully we can move back to NY or New England soon.

Vitner Fruit

I'm really enjoying FL citrus fruits. Tangelos? Delicious! Navel oranges? Superb! Strawberries are in season now too. STRAWBERRIES! In the winter!

I'm going to go celebrate Obama Day with a nice, juicy Tangelo. Almost as good as champagne.

Hello Krankshvester!

I went to see Shakespeare in the park tonight. Macbeth. It was awful. We brought a picnic. This was not awful. M made us sandwiches from the turkey breast he spent the afternoon roasting. What an awesome house husband he will be!
It's 57 degrees outside. I know this doesn't sound cold to most of you out there, but for someone who spent all last weekend lying semi-naked on a beach in 80 degree weather, this is friggin painful, so whatever. I wore a scarf.

Last weekend we sunned ourselves in Naples, FLA. It's a strip mall hell, but the beaches are lovely. And wherever there are strip malls, there are chain restaurants with lovely gluten-free menus. It was fun to stay in a hotel and watch TV. We still don't own one, and I don't say that to sound all self-righteous or anything. The only thing keeping me from buying a TV is the same thing that's keeping me from buying anything. Sallie Fucking Mae. I heard the Obama administration is working on a proposal that would forgive some student loan debt in exchange for some sort of community volunteerism. Not really sure what they have in mind, but I'm hopeful!

Things I would volunteer for to have my student loans forgiven:
1) Nutrition educator for death row inmates
2) Nanny
3) Sponge bath giver for the elderly
4) Wet nurse
5) Basically anything

Arumnem

Things I've thought today (but not in chronological order):
1. Shrimp Pad Thai is tasty.
2. I have thin, shiny hair.
3. M is the only man in Miami with a beard.
4. I'd prefer not to wear a white coat at work, because: (A) It makes patients uneasy and (B) It makes patients think I'm supposed to know what I'm talking about.
5. I haven't been to a library in over 4 months.
6. The vein in the shrimp is it's poo.
7. I prefer plantain strips to plantain chips.
8. I don't side with Israel.
9. I don't side with Hamas.
10. I think the anorexic patients should be forced to spend 1 month in a 3rd world country.
11. To stimulate the economy, all they have to do is forgive 50% of everyone's student loans, or take the interest down to zero. Then all us 20 to 40-somethings can spend our $ on houses, cars, and blow.
12. I'm even afraid of hospital clowns.
13. Poems shouldn't rhyme, unless they're written by Shel Silverstein.
14. "I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins" (Aaaaawwwww!)

negl-sherl

This weekend, before I came down with the stomach bug that all the kids at the hospital were enjoying (blah), I got a manicure and pedicure, French. I don't like saying mani-pedi, but I just did, so whatever. The lady nipped me with the cuticle cutter three times! I know I should do like my mama always says and bring my own, but I get 2 manicures a year, so, well. Now I'm convinced I have Hep C, though my nurse friend assures me I'll be fine. My coworkers say I should have insisted on not paying, but I just can't bring myself to do things like that. Am I a pushover? Perhaps. But my nails do look real purdy.

Ayroplan

Things that happened on my ever so eventful trip to L.A.

1. American Airlines thought it was a good idea to include James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" in their easy music listening mix that's played while taxiing to and fro the terminal. (For those of you who aren't familiar with the song, the lyric "sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground" is rumored to be about a plane crash, though Wikipedia tells me otherwise. Either way, horrible f*cking choice)

2. While eating a salad at Au Bon Pain in the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport I noticed a cockroach trying to escape the middle of said salad. I brought it to the counter and calmly said to the worker "there is something moving in my salad". She looked at it, threw it away, and then told her manager to refund my money. Neither of them looked me in the eye or apologized.

3. While getting ready to take off from Dallas/Ft. Worth, we were stopped and sent back to the gate for being "overweight". The pilot kept apologizing and saying that this sort of thing is supposed to be figured out long before leaving the terminal. They took off some cargo and we took off 1.5 hours late.

4. I accidentally ate gluten. I was also having trouble sleeping thanks to the small bed and eerie coyote howling every night, so M's mom gave me some sleeping pills that knocked the shit out of me. I felt high most of the trip.

5. We went out to a Tujunga (read as: redneck) bar and saw dudes get into a bar fight, and their ladies joined in too. There was much profanity and shit knocked over. Five minutes later everyone was hugging. Best part was the owner came up to our table to apologize and explain what happened. Turns out these were regulars, and they were all friends. One of the dudes was mad cause he got "ruffied" by his friend. The owner laughed and said to me and M's sister, "watch out for your drinks".

6. I made a kick ass brisket and cheesecake for Christmas dinner and some tasty latkas for Christmas breakfast.

7. M's mom and I watched chick movies Christmas morning and I stayed in my pajamas all day long and ate cheesecake for lunch.

And back to FL. I worked on NYE and day, which wasn't too bad. We watched fireworks from our balcony for NYE. There were probably 15 different displays going on in a panoramic view around the city and our view was awesome! Happy new year.
