Milkhik

I had a check-up. I might be the only person in south Florida with a vitamin D deficiency. And it's the summer. What the f? I feel like I've failed as a dietitian.
So I went to the store and bought
1- gallon milk
1- bottle chocolate syrup
1- pint vitamin D-enriched yogurt
1- block cheddar cheese (which doesn't really have much vitamin D)
2- packets sardines (with skin and bones)
1- bottle Ca+D supplements
and I began overdosing. I should be all set for my 6 month check-up. If not, I'm buying a bottle of cod liver oil and moving to the equator.

Shalvedik and lovely

An awesome trip to NY was had. Highlights...
1. Dude sitting next to me on the flight slept the whole time until we landed, woke up, told me he was coming to NY to visit his nephew in the hospital, and then asked if maybe I'd have time to "get a drink" over the weekend. I didn't.
2. Spent lots of time with Z (aka tiny). Learned how to bottle feed (not too hard), wash bottles (hard), and make Z smile (easy). Also got to hang with R and M. They are awesome.
3. Saw 2 plain clothes cops chase a dude on a bike down the street in Brooklyn. I knew they were cops cause they yelled "stop, police". Dude turned the corner, fell off the bike, stood up, started running, and was still way ahead of the cops.
4. Manhattan fun with J, A, and W. They are also quite awesome. Had sushi (super tasty), saw Bruno (funny, but mostly disturbing), went to the Highland Ballroom (fun), and ate a gluten free wrap the size of my torso (see picture).
5. Ate homemade borscht in Brighton Beach (aka "Little Odessa"), and then walked down the boardwalk to see Yo La Tengo (sort of) and Wilco in Coney Island. Awesome show. Awesome borscht.
6. Rode a bike across Park Slope to an awesome bar. I felt totally badass. Had a great conversation with the bartender (something that never happens in Miami), and met J and A for a drink.
7. Ate German food with the infamous EK. Spatzle is a funny word.
8. Visited my favorite Long Islanders and sat in their tranquil garden.
9. Hung out with cousin A in Rockland. Saw my dad's band play in a park. Found Spook Rock Road and the haunted hill. Ate lots of ice cream.
10. Flew back with the Miami Sound Machine. I don't think they're called that anymore, but yes, I was surrounded by Gloria's band. In coach. Drummer next to me said he blames the economic crisis.
Awesome friggin' trip. How many times did I use the word awesome in this awesome post? 8.

So happy tsuzamen

Yes, I did leave the house this weekend. 2 or 3 times. Farmer's Market and a bit of shopping in town on Saturday. Sunday I got to go on a 5 minute bike ride before the sky turned black. M and I were so sick of sitting in the house that we went to a mall, one of the rare indoor ones. A teenage girl who sold M his espresso asked us, while giggling, if we were "together". We said yes and she told us that we look good together. She elaborated by saying "like, you know how sometimes you'll see a really good looking girl and a really ugly guy together and you're like, why is she with him?"
How awesome is that?
This reminds me of another awesome comment I got last week. I was at work completing a nutrition consult for a young man. His mother was in the room observing and participating in the education. When I was finished mom said, "This was great. When they told me a dietitian was coming by I thought it was going to be totally lame."
Um, your welcome.
(50% less lame than the leading dietitian)

Staniks and coconuts

I can't start the weekend until I tell the stories of last weekend, right?

1. FV came to visit!
2. Went to the beach, climbed up to the top of a lighthouse, ate plantains y tostones, and swam a whole bunch, but not in that order.
3. Went to happy hour in South Beach where 3 different men told FV she was a sexy librarian. Actually, what they said was "Oh god, you're a librarian? That's so sexy!"
4. Endured the hottest weather ever. Seriously. It broke records.
5. Painted coconuts at an art gallery. Mine had eyeballs. FV's had sparkles.
6. Bought a new bra (Only J will understand what a mission this is).
7. Got sprayed in the ass with a water gun by a dude in a Hummer Limo (perhaps due to the new bra?)
8. Hung out on a rooftop bar with a waterfall wading pool.
9. Realized Miami doesn't suck as much when cool people come to visit.

This weekend won't be quite as social. I plan to sleep and eat. I may go outside. I haven't decided yet. I'll let you know next week.

RIP MJ

Tishebov and music

Thoughts that occur to me while flipping through the CVS pharmacy sales flier:
1. Is $9.99 for a bottle of Carlo Rossi really a good deal?
2. Who wants Febreeze in watermelon scent?
3. Who buys generic tampons?
4. Cafe Bustelo is on sale. $2.19 con tarjeta. Que bueno!
5. I need some new hobbies.

M's away grading AP exams in Daytona so I am eating junk food and staying up too late and watching anything my computer can show me (within reason). But now as I am writing this I'm listening to Pandora Radio. I love Pandora. Right now "Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins is playing on my Fleet Foxes station, and it's giving me weird high school flashbacks, like the time I was 15 and J, little M and I were taking a walk behind J's condo complex so we could smoke the resin from the green bowl my bro gave me.

And now "Babe I'm gonna leave you" by Led Zeppelin is playing and I'm remembering the first mixed tape M gave me when we started dating. Dork.

And now it's "Let Down" by Radiohead and I remember driving M's blue Ford pickup up Highway 101 from Pismo to San Luis Obispo after visiting his aunt and uncle. He was in a mood and put on "O.K. Computer" because he knew I hated Radiohead and I let it play and realized somewhere around the middle of the drive that I loved Radiohead. I didn't admit it though.

So I realize I've been out of the loop on a lot of recent cultural phenomenons because (pointing nose up in the air) I don't own a television. Please leave a comment with your favorite and recent pop culture train wreck so I can try to follow the happy hour conversations with my coworkers. And make sure it's not something I already know about from reading my friend EK's blog The Trendliest. Thanks.

Draysik

I am thirty.
M and I went to Gainesville for the weekend and:
1. Saw some of our favorite people, K and D and their tiny little man. He's two and loves old school cartoons, Dr. Seuss, and Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean".
2. Saw 2 alligators sunning themselves on the side the highway.
3. Saw wild hogs off the same highway.
4. Hung out with a large group of tattooed parents.
5. Ate a perfect breakfast.
6. Traveled north to realize I live in the south. Best. Accents. Ever.

I got some cool presents:
1. The aforementioned book from M.
2. A couple of checks from relatives who must have forgotten they were supposed to stop sending checks at 29 (oh well).
3. Some awesome clothes from bro and R.
4. A cow print tea kettle from F.
5. And A! sent me two LIVE lobstahs from Gloucester and a pound of clams (I think she wins the prize).

Thirty I am.
